“I met Eileen several years ago over lunch at her home with George Ciscle, and from that first encounter, it was clear she carried a profound sense of duty to her father’s legacy. As his only child, she became the sole steward of his work after his passing in 1969 – a responsibility she has embraced with unwavering purpose and intention. Eileen has accomplished not simply preservation but a quiet, lifelong act of devotion. Through her thoughtful, deliberate efforts, she has introduced the public to a body of work that encapsulates her father’s talent while recognizing his journey as a Holocaust survivor and immigrant. In honoring him, Eileen ensures his story – and his art – endures.”

“MedStar Health is extremely honored to have been chosen as a recipient of Peter Scholleck’s art work. The responsibility of supporting and preserving the legacy of this collection is something we do not take lightly and the ability to share this with our patients as well as our associates is significant. Art heals and it educates, and the ability to incorporate that into our hospitals is tremendous.”
— Bradley Chambers, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Baltimore Region MedStar Health
“Peter Scholleck deviated from the standard means for creating contemporary art in the mid-twentieth century. He was a self-taught modernist who produced well over 200 works during his brief lifetime. He was not part of an artistic community, though he was intellectually curious and spoke five languages. His images demonstrate knowledge of most of the “isms” from Fauvism to Cubism and Surrealism and both German and American Abstract Expressionism. In some of his last paintings he was even prescient, anticipating Neo-Expressionism. In many ways, the power of his mature work derives from his outsider status making his images both compelling and extraordinary.”
